Biography

Dr. Ramon Harvey is a lecturer in Islamic theology at Cambridge Muslim College. His research centers on the Māturīdī tradition, particularly the foundational works of Abū Manṣūr al-Māturīdī (d. 944) and his Transoxianan successors – a neglected theological heritage with great potential for addressing modern questions – which he is committed to reviving through scholarly studies, translations, and commentary.

Beyond historical scholarship, he engages in the renewal of Islamic theology (kalām jadīd), especially its intersection with contemporary philosophical movements. His work spans metaphysical and epistemological topics in analytic philosophy, as well as phenomenology, with a focus on Edmund Husserl.

Dr. Harvey also contributes to Qur'anic studies, having published a monograph and multiple articles in the field. He serves as editor of the Edinburgh Studies in Islamic Scripture and Theology series, commissioning and reviewing major works on Qur'an, Hadith, and theology. From 2020 to 2023, he led a project – funded by the John Templeton Foundation – on Islamic epistemology in dialogue with Christian theology and analytic philosophy. He presents his research regularly and internationally.
